Dear Nanay,
What I am and what I have today is because of yours and Tatay’s sacrifice and hard work. You have taken odd jobs that you did not imagine you would do before you had us. You did everything just to send us to school and to provide us with the things we need. I can still recall how you patiently went around town, from door to door to sell curtains, Avon, Tupperware, almost anything that you can think of and at the same time collecting bet for the small town lotto which people call “Jueteng” hoping you would get some commission and “balato” if your “parokyano” wins. I remember how you always remind us that education is important and that you will do everything to get us through college. I can vividly recall the days when I was about 5 years old; you were teaching me how to read while you were doing the laundry. You knew how financially challenging it would be for a jeepney driver and a housewife(calling you a housewife is an understatement) to send a child to the University but without any hesitation you did. You send Kuya to UPLB. You have been an expert in borrowing money from 5-6 since then(I guess we also have Aling Loleng to thank). I can still remember how you wouldn’t eat any of the food from a neighbor’s party. You would reserve it for us because cake was a rare item in our household. If you were lucky enough, a piece will be left for you. Nanay, you have always looked out for us from the day we were born and never stopped since then. You have always put us first before yourself. We may have lacked material things when my siblings and I were growing up but you have showered us with so much love and care. We may not be a picture perfect family but I would not trade it for all the riches in the world. We are so blessed to have you. I am so blessed to be a part of our family. I will forever be grateful for everything that you have given me, for the unconditional love and for always being there for me. I am sorry for the heartaches, headaches and disappointments I may have caused you. I cannot give back what you have done for us. I don’t think an entire lifetime is enough. All I can do is to try to be a better person everyday and hope that I am making you proud.
To the Most Amazing Woman I’ve ever known, my inspiration, my mentor and my Hero, Happy Mother’s Day Nanay. I love you so much.
